Zomato Appoints MakeMyTrip’s Mohit Gupta As CEO

The popular foodtech company Zomato has reportedly on boarded former MakeMyTrip executive Mohit Gupta. The company has appointed him as the chief executive officer of the food delivery business.

The online food delivery company, through this move, aims to expand and accelerate its growth by strengthening its senior management and leadership team. Prior to this, Gupta was the COO of the travel company, MakeMyTrip. He will now be looking after growth and P&L (profit and loss) of Zomato’s food delivery business. He will report to Deepinder Goyal, Zomato’s Founder and CEO.

Deepinder Goyal, in this regard, said, “We’re thrilled to have Mohit join our team – he is one of the few internet industry veterans who has helped build a formidable transactions business in India.”

Gupta, who has 20 years of experience in this field will surely help the company to grow much higher. He has played an important part in building the marketing function in his previous role and this may be an advantage for Zomato.

Recently, Zomato had come across resignations of various senior executives including company’s chief business officer Mukund Kulashekaran and co-founder Pankaj Chaddah. The latest appointment comes after these officials quit the company. The company has lately spread its operations in 25 new cities which has now helped it reach across 63 cities in the country.

Mohit Kumar was earlier responsible for heading the online food ordering business and now will focus on building the logistics stack within the food delivery business. Apart from this, Zomato has also brought in more appointments that include Rohithari Rajan, ex-Egon Zhender executive as business head of advertising business and Sameer Maheshwary as the chief financial officer from GE India.

Zomato recently witnessed exits of the major senior officials is now taking up major steps to stand ahead in the food delivery space and give a tough fight to all the other companies in this space. The latest appointment seems to surely assist the growth and expansion plans of the company.
