LinkedIn Hits the 50 Million User Milestone in India, Non-metros Dominate

The professional social networking platform LinkedIn has successfully reached the milestone of 50 million users in India. Two years ago, the user base of the company was around 37 million including students and people from smaller towns.

LinkedIn is a business and employment-oriented social platform that has been specially designed for career and business professionals to connect. The company is the best platform for building connections for freelance work, a customer base, potential partners, and to keep job prospects open.

The company stated that the people who belong to non-metro cities and other backward areas have been increasing on the platform for the purpose of staying professionally connected and also for the job opportunities.

LinkedIn had introduced its app’s lighter version known as ‘LinkedIn Lite’ two years ago, and the user base has been increasing at a great pace since then.

The company has also prompted a good number of students to get registered on the platform as and when they enter the job market. And thus, the students now comprise 35% of the total weekly registers in India which was just 10% three years ago.

Akshay Kothari, LinkedIn India head said, “The product is no longer an urban one. Lite has opened the floodgates in terms of growth from tier II and III towns. It is the company’s first, stripped-down mobile-website that is also data-efficient. It was built by Indian engineers and loads four times faster than the original app.”

Talking about the market share, India is in the second position in terms of registered users. The largest user base comes from the US with about 150 million users, and the third one is China with 40 million users.

LinkedIn currently has around 7,00,000 jobs listed on its platform, which was up from 1,00,000 three years back. The top most viewed jobs on the site and app are mechanical engineer, associate consultant, senior programme manager and product manager.

The company seems to be growing at a good pace in the country and soon it may cross other targets as well.
