A Flipkart delivery person suffered around 20 stabs for delivering an ordered mobile phone late on March 21. Reports suggest that a woman named Kamal Deep, speared Keshav, the Flipkart delivery employee for coming at her door after the expected time.
Keshav reportedly was in an area unknown to him and had difficulties finding the precise location of the residence of the woman who, was incessantly calling and shouting at him for the lateness. When he finally found the location, an argument followed between Kamal Deep and Keshav which culminated to the point of Kamal grabbing a knife and stabbing the delivery man.
Kamal Deep’s brother, Jitender Singh then arrived on the scene, originally to stop his sister from stabbing the man, but then joined her in stabbing the Flipkart employee after Kamal incited her brother to give the stabbed man ‘a lesson.’ The pair then began stabbing Keshav multiple times and even attempted to choke him with a shoelace. When they were done with venting their anger on the wounded man, they stole Rs 40,000 that he had collected on the day while working and then threw his dying body near a drain in the Chander Vihar area in Delhi.
The Police PCR received a call informing them about the body of a stabbed man at around 9pm and they took the dying person to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital to receive treatment. A senior police officer stated, “The injured has been identifies as Keshav, a resident of Ambica Enclave in Nihal Vihar. He recorded his statement on March 24 and based on his statement, the accused were arrested. A CCTV footage also helped us crack the case.”
The two siblings were arrested for attempt to murder and voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery under the Indian Penal Code Section 307 and Section 394 respectively at the police station of Nihal Vihar. During the interrogation, the accused were attempting to distort the truth but Keshav’s account of the events were supported by the footage procured from a CCTV camera opposite to the building. In the footage we can see him entering the building and was being dragged out of the building by the accused. Moreover, the police also found stolen money, blood-stained towel, the knife used to stab the Flipkart employee and the shoelaces in a Flipkart bag at the accused place.
This is not the first time that a Flipkart employee has been victim of such abuse. Unfortunately, cases of them being robbed, abused or even killed are not isolated cases. In December 2016, another Flipkart delivery person named Nanjundaswamy, 29, went to a Bengaluru gym to deliver a mobile phone but the accused, Varun, didn’t have the means to pay for the phone he ordered and slit the throat of the Flipkart employee. In July 2017, a thief-gang arrested for establishing a criminal scheme where they would first steal bikes and the steal mobile phones while riding those bikes. They would eventually sell the stolen mobile phones in order to purchase items online and finally rob those coming to deliver the ordered items.
