Four-year-old on-demand home services startup, UrbanClap has marked a successful international debut by offically announcing its launch in Dubai, one of the most populous cities in the United Arab Emirates.
The web-based platform which already has its presence in all major Indian metropolitans has chosen Dubai before looking at tier-2 cities in India. As per sources, the startup is looking forward to begins its operations in Dubai with about 100 servicemen in five sectors: home cleaning, packers and movers, handymen and home painting.
Abhiraj Bhal, co-founder at UrbanClap confirmed the launch on his social media account today stating,

The CEO doesn’t consider company’s move directed as an international expansion and told media, “We don’t see it as an international expansion but a strategic entry into a global city that is close to India.”
Home Service Startup Now Aims to Enter Indian Tier-2 Cities
Delhi-headquartered UrbanClap came to inception in 2014 by three young entrepreneurs- An IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, Abhiraj Bhal, a computer science graduate from University of California, Raghav Chandra and Varun Khaitan, IIT-Kanpur alumnus.
The startup has been successful in raising a total of $60 million funding and is currently offering services in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
As per inside reports, the home service provider will look into expanding in Chandigarh and Jaipur, however not immediately. Bahl said, “We have debated often about expanding into tier-2 cities but feel the markets are not ready.”
According to a research analysis from Technaivo Market, the online on-demand home service market in the world is being expected to grow at a CAGR close to 49% during the forecast period 2017-2021.
UAE’s business destination, Dubai also has its own homegrown startups like ServiceMarket, Helpbit, mrUsta among others that specialise in home service marketplace. Hence, with top competitors in the landscape, it will be interesting to watch how UrbanClap will manoeuvre its growth in Dubai’s home service marketplace.
