The global technology giant Apple Inc is reportedly in the process of setting up a team that would work devotedly on a dedicated custom health chip. This chip would help the company process biometric data from its suite of devices.
The chip will make better sense of health information coming off sensors from deep inside its devices,
The technology company at present creates custom chips for its iPhone and is supposedly going to switch to custom processors for its Mac line-up of computers by the year 2020.
“Apple has a team exploring a custom processor that can make better sense of health information coming off sensors from deep inside its devices, job listings show,” a report stated.
But it is still not been made clear what the sensors would measure, however, it is most likely to be some information from the body. Apple has been quite inclined towards the healthcare market in general and its Apple Watches come with optical sensors that can measure heart rate.
Apart from the Apple Watches, the iPhone also features health-monitoring features. The technology giant’s areas of interest comprise of exercise, cardiac health, and sleep quality through its acquisition of the health monitor Beddit.
A July 10 job posting from Apple’s Health Sensing hardware team said, “We are looking for sensor ASIC architects to help develop ASICs for new sensors and sensing systems for future Apple products. We have openings for analog as well as digital ASIC architects.”
These specialized chips created by the team are supposed to take care of computing information coming off of sensors for things like depth and distance. Apple is looking to work with new types of sensors so its devices can deliver better battery life and performance.
In this regard, the health experts mention that it would be a huge breakthrough for millions of people with diabetes if Apple pulls off this initiative.
