The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Western Railway (WR) has developed and introduced a mobile application for the safety of women commuters, commuting between the suburbs of Churchgate and Virar railway stations.
The free app, Eyewatch Railways, launched last month, was developed by RPF by Western Railway in partnership with Eyewatch Technologies Pvt Ltd. It can be downloaded on an Android phone from Google Play Store and on iPhone from Appstore, said Chief PRO by WR Ravinder Bhakar.
“This app has an alarm button, by tapping the button or by pressing the power button four times, Eyewatch Railways notifies the RPF control and notifies the user’s call guardians via SMS. It also has a location update feature that allows the RPF Control Center to view the commuters at constantly updated locations until they reach a safe destination, “he said.
This app helps women commuters in times of emergency as they can instantly send their location, video and audio, which can be seen immediately at the emergency control center in the RPF control room in Mumbai Central, he added.
“The eight selected guardians, doctors and security personnel will also receive the alert SMS and a phone call will automatically be made to them (guardians), and will only work if a commuter uses them on railway facilities,” he added.
The application was customized for the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to send an immediate response by sending RPF personnel from the nearest station to help the women commuters, the official said, adding, “Over 1 lakh have passengers downloaded the app until now.”

According to Bhakar, this app also has an audio / visual stream feature that allows Eyewatch to automatically record up to 60 seconds of pre-alarm audio and 20 seconds of post-alarm video.
“In addition, it shows the current battery (status of the user’s phone), network signal strength, blood type, nature of the emergency along with other important data that can be viewed on the web-based Eyewatch Control Center in the RPF control room,” Bhakar said.
