Now You Can Apply for Indian Passport Using Mobile Application

In an effort to help Indian citizens to secure passport in hassle freeway, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has unveiled a newer version of the mPassportSeva Mobile App.

A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that the revamped version of the mobile app comes along with a unique scheme that allows Indian citizens to apply for passport on their mobile from any part of the country.

The new improved version of the app was launched to mark the Sixth Passport Seva Divas. It is available on both Android as well as IOS platforms.

Commenting on the benefit of the app, a statement by the ministry said: “With the launch of this mPassport Seva App, citizens would not require access to a computer and printer to apply for passport services.”

Describing the changes made to the process of acquisition of passport as revolutionary, the minister said that 77 Passport Seva Kendras were made available in the last 48 years while 231 more were added in the last 48 months.

The app will support all the standard services including downloading & filling the form to apply for passport, applying for police clearance certificate, scheduling appointment etc.

The ministry also shed light on other new schemes that permits citizens to personally choose Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK). By virtue of this scheme, applicants can apply for passport even in those PSKs & POPSKs that lies beyond their respective jurisdictions.

However, there will be no leniency on police verification. If certain passports do require police verification then it will be done as per the rules & regulation laid down by the law.

Every year millions of Indians apply for passports for various purposes including healthcare treatment & operations, tourism, jobs, meeting families & relatives etc. In the past, applying for passport was a torturous affair as it demanded lot of paperwork and going through red tape. However, with unprecedented growth of technology, much of this pain has subsided.
