After Google, Now Indian Firm Joister Wants to Offer Free Wi-Fi at Railway Stations in Maharashtra

After launching free Wi-Fi services at about 500 locations in four major cities of Maharashtra, broadband and gaming provider Joister Infomedia has offered to provide free Wi-Fi at all railway stations in the state. Google had last year announced that it will provide free Wi-Fi access at 400 railway stations in the country, and started the rollout in January. Joister Infomedia, which offers free Wi-Fi to about two lakh registered users in Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Navi Mumbai, has approached Central Railways and Western Railways to offer free Wi-Fi at all stations in Maharashtra. New Delhi- Advocating the need for more content in Indian languages to propel internet penetration, a report titled ‘Proliferation of Indian Languages on Internet’ finds that enabling local language content on the Internet will lead to a growth of 39% in the current Internet user base. 75% growth will be from the rural users while only 16% growth will come from urban India. AFP, COLOMBO: A Google balloon, part of the company's high-speed Internet service known as "Project Loon", crashed in a Sri Lankan tea plantation during its maiden test flight, local police said today. Villagers found the deflated balloon with its electronic equipment in the island's central tea-growing region of Gampola on Wednesday night, an officer told AFP. Paytm Scraps Transaction Fee For Offline Merchants, Last year Transaction was $120 million

Paytm, India's leading Mobile wallet and e-commerce firm scrapped 'per transaction fee' for consumer-to-merchant offline wallet transactions, a move to boost digital money transfer on the platform. The fee ranged from 0.5% to 1.75%, depending on the merchant service provider. "Often these charges discourage a merchant to accept a digital transaction and they end up asking the consumer to bear the cost, which is illegal," said Nitin Misra, payment products head at Paytm. "By eliminating this cost, we are looking at an opportunity to digitise that 95% of India which still deals in cash," he added.
