Uber Should Have Given Court An Ex-employee’s Letter About ‘Fraud And Theft’ In Waymo Case

Ride hailing company Uber was obligated to turn over to a U.S. federal judge a letter from a former employee that told of the company’s “fraud and theft” and mentioned evidence of stolen trade secrets nailed “like a scalp” to the wall, a court official said Friday. Special master, John Cooper, assigned to a lawsuit against Uber Technologies Inc by Alphabet Inc’s self-driving car unit, Waymo, released a report on Friday stating the company should have produced the letter and was wrong in keeping it from the court. The letter, from former Uber security analyst Richard Jacobs alleging Uber engaged in illegal and unethical competitive tactics and had stolen trade secrets, is at the heart of Waymo’s lawsuit against Uber.  The letter was sent to Uber’s in-house lawyer in May and shared ...

Google Crunches Data To Help NASA Find Two New Planets

Alphabet Inc’s Google and NASA said on Thursday that advanced computer analysis identified two new planets around distant stars, including one that is part of the first star system with as many planets as Earth’s solar system. The research by Google and the University of Texas at Austin that used data from NASA raised the prospects of new insights into the universe by feeding data into computer programs that can churn through information faster and more in-depth than humanly possibly, a technique known as machine learning.  In this case, software learned differences between planets and other objects by analyzing thousands of data points, achieving 96 percent accuracy, NASA said at a news conference. The data came from the Kepler telescope which NASA launched into space in 2009 as ...

Chinese Ride Sharing Giant DiDi Chuxing Is Coming To North America

Beijing, China's ride hailing giant Didi Chuxing is planning to expand its services to expand to Mexico by next year, marking the company's first international expansion move. This also signals a new phase of competition with global ride sharing company Uber, which quit its Chinese business by selling it to Didi in 2016 after lengthy and expensive battle. After Uber, Didi Chuxing is the most valued privately owned firm in the world. Its decision to begin recruiting drivers and offering rides in Mexico will surely be seen as shot across Uber's bow at a time when the company witnessed a series of self-inflicted scandals. Didi right now has no card outside China, but will be launching an app in the Mexico and recruit local drivers. It is unclear which cities Didi will target, althoug...

Now Uber Investor Shervin Pishevar Accused Of Sexual Misconduct

Multiple women have accused Uber investor Shervin Pishevar of  sexual misconduct, in a talk with Bloomberg. Pishevar, an early investor of San Francisco based ride-hailing company has been alleged with the misconduct, that he outdid in December 2014. Uber held a holiday party on an unfurnished floor at its headquarters in San Francisco, which was attended by its investors and employees. They came in flamboyant attire from the “Roaring ‘20s” and drank at an open bar into the early morning hours. Venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar, several attendees recall, brought a live pony on a leash. According to the attendees of the party, the then-40-years-old Shervin approached Uber's 30-years-old Austin Geidt, head of global expansion. During his moves, he placed his hand on her legs and tri...

Kaspersky CEO Says He Would Leave If Russia Asked Him To Spy

The founder of Moscow-based anti-virus software company Kaspersky Lab said on Tuesday he would quit Russia if its intelligence agencies ever asked his company to spy for it. CEO Eugene Kaspersky said accusations his software had been used by Russian spies to steal American secrets had caused the company’s revenue to decline in North America, but said it was still growing in other parts of the world. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has banned government agencies from using Kaspersky Lab software, after concluding that the company’s anti-virus software had been used to copy sensitive files with American secrets. The company and its founder Eugene Kaspersky have strongly denied they ever cooperated with Russian intelligence, although they have said their software inadvertent...

Uber Hacking Cover-Up Collides With SoftBank Deal, Triggers Probes Worldwide

A newspaper advertisement for an Uber Technologies Inc stock sale was juxtaposed on Wednesday with a report that the ride-service provider had covered up a data hack – something of a metaphor for Uber, a company with boundless investor interest, but whose penchant for rule-breaking has led to a series of scandals. The stock sale advertised in the New York Times will enable Uber investors to sell their shares to Japanese investor SoftBank, a critical deal for the company whose problems included building software to spy on competitors and to evade regulators and being investigated in Asia for paying bribes. Uber on Tuesday said that it had paid hackers $100,000 to destroy data on more than 57 million customers and drivers that was stolen from the company – and decided under the previou...

Russian Twitter Accounts Promoted Brexit Ahead Of EU Referendum: Times Newspaper

Russian Twitter accounts posted almost 45,000 messages about Brexit in the 48 hours around last year’s referendum in an attempt to sow discord during the vote on whether to leave the European Union, the Times newspaper reported on Wednesday. The Times cited research from an upcoming paper by data scientists at Swansea University and the University of California, Berkeley, which it said showed accounts based in Russia had tweeted about Brexit in the days leading up to the June 23 vote. The Times said most of the tweets seen by the newspaper encouraged people to vote for Brexit, although a number advocated remaining in the EU. It quoted Tho Pham, one of the paper’s authors, as saying “the main conclusion is that bots were used on purpose and had influence”. The research tracked 156,...

Lyft May Claim A Third Of U.S. Market Soon!

Lyft is expected to take over a significant amount of U.S. market, and has gained much on its rival Uber Technologies Inc, according to a private Lyft investor report obtained by Bloomberg. The investor is depicting in the report that by the end of the year, Lyft's shares will see a boost in its U.S. ride-hailing business by about 61 percent. The gains that the company got are under the disturbed reputation of Uber after a series of events like executives stepping down and the distress among its drivers. These series of events has kept Uber distracted for a long time, while it was busy with internal management conflicts, Lyft gained on that and may emerge in the coming months. Former Yahoo CEO Apologizes For Data Breaches, Blames Russians

Marissa Mayer, former CEO of Yahoo on Wednesday, apologised for the two historic data breaches at their company. She blamed the Russian agents, saying they were behind at least one of these breaches, at a hearing on the growing number of cyber attacks on major U.S. companies. ”As CEO, these thefts occurred during my tenure, and I want to sincerely apologise to each and every one of our users,” she told the Senate Commerce Committee, testifying alongside the interim and former CEOs of Equifax Inc and a senior Verizon Communications Inc executive. “Unfortunately, while all our measures helped Yahoo successfully defend against the barrage of attacks by both private and state-sponsored hackers, Russian agents intruded on our systems and stole our users’ data.” she added. These Russian Ads Deceived Users on Facebook and Instagram- Leaked

The Russian ads that influenced the Americans came under many disguised faces. They ran all across Facebook and Instagram attempting to influence the public's opinion through social media in a manner we hardly can imagine! The content that went along with it could hardly be traced now, but we managed to get some of the screenies of those social media ads. It's clear from the testimony of internet companies that these ads aimed at "election interference". Go through the examples in the below images of how they planned to discredit a candidate (Clinton being the reliable target), and foment division on existing issues. The Russian ads targeted the far left and the far right, seeking to manipulate black activists, Muslims, Christians, LGBTQ people, gun owners and even fans of Ivanka ...
