India’s First Electric Bike Launched at Auto Expo 2018

Bengaluru based tech startup Emflux Motors has launched India’s first electric superbike what they call ‘Emflux One’ at the Auto Expo 2018 amidst high speed electric cars.

The obvious, Kitna deti hai(what is the average and price)?

Emflux One is a high-power beauty powered by Samsung’s Li-Ion Batteries, that includes the Samsung SDi Cells which gives it a 200 km pump without compromising on acceleration and speed, the company says.

Emoflux Bike

The bike is powered by 60 kW AC induction motor, with power limited to 53 kW from the controller, which gives it a speed of 200 kmph (around 124 mph). The bike can reach from 0-100 km/h in just 3 seconds (for techies out there – the motor provides a torque of 84 Nm @ 8400 rpm, which is pretty amazing given it is battery powered). The highway range of the bike is told to be 150 km @ 80kmph under ideal conditions.

The charging time of bike is- from 0-80% in 36 minutes from WARP Charger, 3 Hours from Regular 15A Wall Charger. Here are further details:

  • Input : 85-264V /15A AC Supply
  • Output : 84-118V / 33A DC
  • Power : 3.3KW Nominal
  • Efficiency : 95% (Min.)
  • Cooling System : Liquid Cooled

It is estimated that Emflux One will be priced somewhere around 5.5 lacs to 6 lacs INR and will also be showcased in company’s centers in Bengaluru, New Delhi and Mumbai. The bike is also showcased in Auto Expo 2018 in Hall 08.

How ‘Intelligent’ is the Bike?

The bike is also termed “intelligent”! It comes with a 7″touch TFT display and is GPS enabled; the screen also provides vehicle diagnostics, auto updates, mobile app and even features like Bike to Bike connectivity. The bike also has features like Bluetooth, WiFi, 4G System Software.

Type of motor : Emflux™ 3 Phase AC Induction with Liquid Cooling, with an IP (Ingress Protection) rating of 67.

The bike is protected with basic features to ensure that no damage to the battery occurs against over voltage, Under voltage, Over Current, or extreme temperatures.

Let’s talk more technical!

However not much is known about the chassis, which we of course want to know, it is said that the superbike(or Concept One, as they call it) could get a trellis frame. The body panels are made of lightweight glass-fibre panels which can be upgraded to Ultralight Carbon Fibre panels, cool right?

The bike has energy efficient LED lights,(obviously) that would not consume too much energy off the battery.

Emflux also has an application called Emflux One Dashboard ,with the help of which a user can locate and book charging station nearby. The bike also has a parking/walking assist back and forth with 3 km/h max speed. The motor is liquid cooled while the battery is air cooled. The bike is designed by keeping racing interest of a user, hence it is equipped with high tech components like- single-sided swingarm (this will add to the strength to the rear axle), Brembo brakes and dual channel ABS and advanced Ohlins Suspension.

Buying it already?

Well the price of the bike is “not-so cheap” but the company said pricing it between 5-6 lacs, it will sell a limited 199 units. The bikes will be given a 5 year warranty.  It is yet to know how the bike would feel in the hands of an actual racer and it is better to wait til someone actually gets their hands on it. Earlier many companies/startups have tried doing the same, but thing’s didn’t go so well for them. Electric Vehicles are no doubt the future of the world, but how long will it take to penetrate in Indian market, it is yet to be figured out. The company however has a saleable formula by 2019.
