Royal Enfield Rides into Brazilian Market

Niche bike maker Royal Enfield today announced its entry into Brazil, the fourth largest two-wheeler market in the world. The company has entered the Latin American country with three models-- Bullet 500, Classic 500 and the Continental GT cafe racer. It has set up its second direct distribution subsidiary outside India in Brazil, with having established the first such entity in the US in 2015. The newly-formed subsidiary - Royal Enfield Brazil - at Sao Paulo will sell bikes to dealers, as well as conduct all front-end development and support activities such as marketing and after-sales in the country. IT firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) today said it has partnered Jnana Prabodhini, a social organisation, to build the world's largest online community of teaching professionals. As part of the association, TCS iON (a unit of TCS) will work with Jnana Prabodhini to offer a platform to teachers for contributing and collaborating with peers and experts, a statement said. 95% Engineers in India Unfit For Software Development Jobs

Talent shortage is acute in the IT and data science ecosystem in India with a survey claiming that 95 per cent of engineers in the country are not fit to take up software development jobs. According to a study by employability assessment company Aspiring Minds, only 4.77 per cent candidates can write the correct logic for a programme — a minimum requirement for any programming job. Over 36,000 engineering students from IT related branches of over 500 colleges took Automata — a Machine Learning based assessment of software development skills — and over 2/3 could not even write code that compiles. Wipro Fired 600 Employees Post Performance Appraisal

The country’s third largest software services firm Wipro is learnt to have fired hundreds of employees as part of its annual “performance appraisal”. According to sources, Wipro has shown the door to about 600 employees, while speculation was rife that the number could go as high as 2,000. At the end of December 2016, the Bengaluru-based company had over 1.79 lakh employees. An Indian-American CEO has been ordered to pay USD 135,000 to her former domestic worker after a Labour Department investigation found she underpaid and mistreated her. Himanshu Bhatia, CEO of Rose International and IT Staffing, will have to pay her former live-in domestic service worker back wages and damages under the terms of a consent judgement entered into the US District Court for the Central District of California. Insurance regulator Irdai has launched a web portal for insurers that will allow them to register and sell policies online. The portal isnp.irda.gov.in is also open to intermediaries in insurance business, Irdai said in a circular. Last month Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) issued guidelines on e-commerce for insurance sector. Ola readies big push for electric vehicles in India

SoftBank-backed Ola will soon launch a pilot to test electric vehicles on its platform in the country. Ola, which is locked in an intense battle in the Indian market with US-based Uber, is expected to roll out its pilot in cities like Nagpur in the coming months.
