California, 25th Dec, 2022: World's leading social media platform Facebook has agreed to pay $725 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that facebook allowed sharing of millions of its users' personal information to Cambridge Analytica. Terms of the settlement reached by Meta Platforms, the holding company for Facebook and Instagram, were disclosed in court documents filed late Thursday. It will still need to be approved by a judge in a San Francisco federal court hearing set for March. The case sprang from 2018 revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a firm with ties to Trump political strategist Steve Bannon, had paid a Facebook app developer for access to the personal information of about 87 million users of the platform. That data was then used to target U.S. Voters during the 2016...

India made drug 2DG can reduce heart damage caused by Coronavirus

Washington, Nov 8, 2022: 2DG, a drug developed by the Indian defence unit Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) may reverse the heart damage caused by a protein in the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a study conducted in fruit flies and mice has found. Researchers from the University of Maryland identified how a specific protein in SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19, damages heart tissue. They then used the drug, called 2DG, to reverse the toxic effects of that protein on the heart. Developed by Dr Reddy's Laboratories in collaboration with DRDO, 2DG is an oral drug. The SARS-CoV-2 virus depends upon glycolysis or breakdown of glucose for energy. The drug hinders the process of glycolysis and prevents the growth of the virus. "Our research shows that individual SARS-...

Affordability issues are driving the pullback in activity; steep prices mixed with high and volatile mortgage rates have stunted sales and frozen current owners in their homes, reducing the flow of new inventory.  Current homeowners are looking at home prices and the mortgage market and deciding to stay put. Among home sellers, 71% are also buyers. Homeowners who either bought or refinanced at record-low rates over the past two years understand that current rates are going to yield a lot less home than they're currently in unless they seek out a much mo...

Elon Musk and Twitter Closes deal for $44 billion

Twitter is in advanced discussions to sell itself to Elon Musk and could finalize a deal today on Monday, people familiar with the matter said. Assuming there isn’t a last-minute snag, the deal is expected to be announced after the market closes on Monday. It’s not clear why the total value of the deal has increased slightly from prior expectations, but it could be related to an updated share count. Elon Musk on April 14 offered a bid to buy the company without saying how he would pay for it, calling it his "best and final" offer. Twitter had been expected to rebuff the offer, and put in place a so-called poison pill to block him from increasing hi...
