Cisco To Acquire July Systems To Boost Its WiFi Platform

The multinational tech firm Cisco Systems Inc. has announced that It is in the advanced stage to acquire a mobile application platform provider called July Systems. This step will assist the company in strengthening the WiFi platform of the enterprise with the aim to provide much better indoor location services capabilities, among other offerings.

July Systems is a California and Bengaluru based company which is among the top WiFi analytics companies. Founded in 2001, July Systems is a leader and pioneer in cloud-based mobile experience and location services platforms. The company’s platform and mobility solutions are used by companies including CNN, ESPN, Intel, Toys”R”Us, CBS, Fox, and NBC Universal.

We plan to add July Systems’ platform and business context capabilities to provide a unified solution on which our partners and customers can build and deliver a range of indoor location services for industries as diverse as healthcare, government, logistics, manufacturing, sports arenas, hotels, education and retail, the company stated.

The information regarding the current deal’s finances and the amount paid has not been disclosed. However, earlier July Systems had raised around $59 million from investors like Sequoia Capital, Intel Capital and others.

Apart from the WiFi platform, this deal will also help Cisco in reinforcing intent-based networking (a way of building and managing networks). Cisco had lately told that it will be launching its intent-based network with a suite of new developer tools. The company will be able to know about the customer who just walked in the door, how many times they have shopped at this retailer, their loyalty point score and so forth.

Cisco has previously joined hands with July Systems in Cisco’s Connected Mobile Experience (CMX), and Cisco offers similar capabilities to July’s in Cisco’s Meraki services. It is not the first time that both these companies are getting associated.
