Dressed in Shimmering Clothes with prominent Mascara, Lipstick and bright makeup on their faces, Transgenders or Hijras as they are often recognized, walk to signals day in and day out filled with hopes that they could be recognized for what they are instead they become an object of abuse.
Indians believe them as touched by gods, yet we sideline them in the society. Mostly seen at traffic signals, in train collecting cash for living, working as sex workers and performing in after weddings just to earn a day meal has given them a sense of incompleteness with their secret life with no satisfaction in what they are doing for living.
There are various NGOs that though support them, but their support is limited due to financial and social barriers. What is it in them that people make fun of, never give them a chance to prove them or let them work amongst other men and women. They often fail to enjoy the basic amenities and rights that other men and women enjoy. Life is already very difficult for them and the society makes it tougher.
Looking at their backwardness and non-participation in the society the startup Bro4u.com came up with the idea of indulging them in its activity of distributing and reaching out to customers by appointing transgenders to distribute the cards of Bro4u.com to the customers. The team of Bro4u always think innovative ways to get their work done in a special way that helps in the uplift of society too.
Bro4u.com is an initiative to simplify people’s lives by providing a number of personalized services at their fingertips and then at their doorstep.
Being a promising start-up, it represents a solid example of how we can exchange help in our grand journey. Being bootstrapped, the only investment they have is their humble team, which is competing equally with big guns who are all really hugely funded. Initially they were standing in malls and crowded areas to distribute their cards but one of a team member Sandeep suggested – why can’t we scale it by approaching transgenders for this activity, and the response they got was awesome.
Transgenders helped them in distributing cards across major IT areas. By this activity, they already have reached to about 75000 target people from last 2 months. Though with the intention of business here and incentivizing their work, they were mesmerized seeing their commitment, support and love towards helping them grow. Talking apart from the business, the activity gave them a moment to go deep into the problems of transgenders, who said, “We are ready to work – but no one gives us one“. One of the team member Praveen went to their small houses and shot this video to highlight their problems and how they are meaningfully exchanging help.
The startup has taken some initiative and incentive to appoint them as their local distributor which not only has helped them in generating some revenue but also the startup has opened a new window showing the insight of this community of people who has been living their lives totally isolated from the society. Bro4u has made a new pathway and given transgenders a ray of hope and neutrality that may help them in taking a step towards a normal and dignified living with social and individual acceptance. Though the company is at its initial levels, yet the act which is done by them is very humane and greatness that the company dreams to pursue. Keeping aside their business agendas, this gesture has not only helped them in spreading awareness and promotion of their company, but has given the transgenders a ladder to reach the level of acceptance that was missing since decades.
