PUBG Corporation Cuts Ties With Tencent After India ban

New Delhi, 8th Sept 2020: After a recent move by the Indian government to ban 118 Chinese apps including the popular mobile game PUBG forced Korean company PUBG Corporation to cut ties with Chinese company Tencent for India’s operation.

In its press release, PUBG Corporation said, “it has made the decision to no longer authorize the PUBG MOBILE franchise to Tencent Games in India. Moving forward, PUBG Corporation will take on all publishing responsibilities within the country. As the company explores ways to provide its own PUBG experience for India in the near future, it is committed to doing so by sustaining a localized and healthy gameplay environment for its fans.

We are actively monitoring the situation around the recent bans of PUBG MOBILE and PUBG MOBILE Lite in India and fully understand and respects the measures taken by the Indian government as the privacy and security of player data is a top priority for the company. It hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.”

PUBG MOBILE is the mobile version of PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), an intellectual property owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company.

Launched in 2017, PUBG has seen a total of 734 million installations worldwide and more than 175 million installations came from India alone which accounts for 24% of the total installations worldwide.

Tencent has lost nearly $34 billion market value over the last 2 days after its game banned by the Indian Government.
