The largest multinational technology company Microsoft India has entered into a partnership with Apollo Hospitals for the purpose of building an artificial intelligence-powered platform. This platform will be built in a way to predict the risk of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) in the Indian population.
This partnership is a part of Microsoft’s AI Network for Healthcare initiative and under this, the two firms have launched an AI-powered Cardiovascular Disease Risk Score API (application program interface) that can be utilized by doctors across the Apollo network of hospitals for the prediction of risk of CVD and drive preventive cardiac care across the country.
A lot of people in India suffer from high blood pressure. There may be a several CVD risk models available worldwide, but they do not cater precisely to the Indian population.
“This partnership is part of our continuing endeavor to design new tools and equip our doctors in the fight against non-communicable diseases. The amalgamation of AI and machine learning with the global expertise of our doctors will help prevent heart disease, save lives and ensure those with heart disease can make informed choices on their health,” said Sangita Reddy, Apollo Hospitals Joint Managing Director.
The API has been set up on Microsoft Azure and this aims at ascertaining a more exact CVD risk score for the Indian population as said in a statement. This platform has been built with a combination of applied AI and clinical expertise on a large sample of retrospective data on health checks and coronary events.
The scoring in the API will be considering risk contributors such as lifestyle attributes like diet, tobacco and smoking preferences, physical activity as well as psychological stress and anxiety as reflected via the rate of respiration, hypertension and systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
The score will be divided into categories that are high, moderate and minimal and with these, the physicians will be able to make a timely intervention and help their patients with the lifestyle changes that are needed.
