4 cr Indian Users may be without Mobile Phones by May End

An estimated 4 crore Indian mobile phone users are expected to be without handsets due to faults and breakdowns by May-end if restrictions on the sale of handsets and spare parts continue, an industry body said on Friday. At present, more than 2.5 crore mobile customers are estimated to be with non-functional devices due to non availability of components in the supply chain and the restriction on sales of new handsets due to the lockdown to contain coronavirus infection, the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) claimed. Now, Access Driving Licence on Your Mobile Using DigiLocker

Citizens will now be spared from the hassle of carrying physical driving licences and vehicle registration certificates (RCs), which can be accessed online or on their mobile phones using DigiLocker. Launching the integration of DigiLocker with the Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration system of the ministry of road transport and highways today, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said citizens can use these as valid identification at airports too. Its makers, the Noida-based startup Ringing Bells Pvt Ltd, say they have made it possible despite allegations from various quarters that such a phone would not see the light of the day. Mobile Phones Production in India May Reach 500 Million in 2 Years

NEW DELHI: Mobile phones manufacturing in India may reach 500 million units in coming two years on the back of the good base of talent and an incentive policy, a top Department of Telecom (DoT) official said today. This year, India produced 100 million phones as compared to 45 million last year. "The number of phones being manufactured was 10 million sometime back (which increased) to 45 million last year and 100 million this year. The time has come when we will reach 500 million, maybe in 2 years," Telecom Secretary J S Deepak said here.
