MIT Pune, IBM Unveil Robot Chintu

The students of Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT) Pune and technology giant IBM have developed a robot, Chintu, which would assist senior citizens in their everyday tasks. Chintu, under 2ft tall robot, was developed after MIT Pune received a grant of Rs 10 lakh last year from IBM. It is powered by the US-based companys cognitive assistant, IBM Watson. Chintu can move his hands and read books to an audience. India, Russia to Set Up $1 Billion Business Fund

India and Russia are setting up a USD 1 billion fund to promote mutual investments in infrastructure and technology projects, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said. Both the countries would contribute USD 500 million to the fund, Sitharaman said while addressing India-Russia Business Forum at the ongoing International Engineering Sourcing Show (IESS) here yesterday. While the Russian funds would be channeled through Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Indian contribution will be accrued from National Investment and Infrastructure Fund. Security Flaw Found in WhatsApp, Telegram: Researchers

A computer security firm today revealed a flaw that could let hackers break into WhatsApp or Telegram messaging accounts using the very encryption intended to protect messages. Check Point Software Technologies said that it alerted Telegram and Facebook-owned WhatsApp last week, waiting until the vulnerability was patched before making it public. Check Point did not specify how many messaging accounts were at risk, but did say the flaw posed a danger to "hundreds of millions" of users accessing the messaging platform from web browsers in computers, as opposed to mobile applications. Lawyer Seeks FIR Against TVF Founder Over Harassment Charges

A lawyer today filed an application with MIDC police station in suburban Andheri, demanding registration of FIR for sexual harassment against Arunabh Kumar, founder of web entertainment firm The Viral Fever(TVF). The complaint referred to accusations of sexual harassment against Kumar made in a blog post by an anonymous woman who claimed to be a former TVF employee. TVF has denied the allegations. IT security firm McAfee is looking at adding more jobs at its centre in Bengaluru and will continue to invest in growing local business in India, a top official said today. Global chipmaker Intel had last September spun out McAfee as a separate company with private equity player TPG owning 51% share in the new entity. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2017. "One of our largest sites around the world is in Bangalore. We continue to invest in that. Vacancy of Office Space Lowest in Bengaluru at 4%

Bengaluru has the lowest vacancy of office space at nearly 4 per cent among the seven major cities on account of robust demand from corporates, according to property consultant JLL India. The demand of office space is expected at 8 million sq ft in the 2017 calendar year against 8.6 million sq ft occupied in last year. "Among the seven major office markets in India, Bengaluru continues to have the lowest vacancy levels at slightly less than 4 per cent," JLL India CEO and Country Head Ramesh Nair said in a report. Reliance Jio, Paytm Apologise For Using PM’s Photo in Print Ads

Reliance Jio and Paytm have apologised for their "inadvertent mistake" in using Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph in their advertisements without permission, the government today informed Parliament. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs had sent notices to both the companies under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act of 1950, which bars use of Prime Minister's name and picture for commercial use. "Clarifications were sought by the Department of Consumer Affairs from Paytm and Reliance Jio wherein they have apologised for their inadvertent mistake," Minister of State for Consumer Affairs C R Chaudhary said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
